Emeryville, CA—The Library of Congress Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) has designated SkyRiver as a Bibliographic Record Program (BIBCO) utility. Under this program qualified BIBCO catalogers may create and upgrade bibliographic records to BIBCO standards using SkyRiver’s cataloging client. BIBCO records meet the highest cataloging standards as set by the PCC and the records undergo complete authority heading verification.
With this designation SkyRiver adds to its PCC credentials, having served as a NACO (Name Authority Cataloging Program) Exchange Partner since 2010. SkyRiver’s feature set for BIBCO cataloging includes automatic update of headings when LC authority records change and the ability to limit SkyRiver search results to PCC records.
Michigan State University Libraries will be SkyRiver’s initial BIBCO participant. Lisa Robinson, MSU’s Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services, says "With SkyRiver’s enhanced interface and RDA support, our catalogers can contribute BIBCO records very efficiently—just as we do for NACO." Georgia Fujikawa, SkyRiver’s VP for Operations, notes that "SkyRiver’s BIBCO support brings benefits to all of our customers by sourcing metadata of the highest quality and by enabling catalogers to identify PCC records quickly and easily."
